This figurine is made out of polished rock containing million-year-old Orthoceras fossils. Orthoceras fossils are the remains of an invertebrate, an animal without a backbone, that belongs to the Phylum Mollusca family. This is a broad grouping that includes snails, slugs, oysters, clams, octopuses, and squid.
An Orthoceras is a Nautiloid from the Devonian period of the Paleozoic era, millions of years ago.
Orthoceras can be found worldwide in marine deposits. Common locations are Iowa, Morocco, Scandinavia, and the Alps.
Approximate Measurements: 4.5 inches tall, 7 inches in length, & .75 of an inch wide.
Color hues vary from black and grey to brown and tan.
